Description
The impressive jagged rocks of Hartland Quay as dusk approaches on the treacherous North Devon coast, SW England, UK.
Remote Hartland Quay is world famous for its stormy seas, knife edge rocks treacherous to shipping and its geological rock formations particularly the chevron folded rock layers in nearby Warren Cliff. These rock patterns formed over millennia of tectonic and volcanic activity uplifting, folding and faulting its rocks. Several ships have been wrecked here and on the coast nearby. The harbour itself dates back to the reign of King Henry VIII. The quay / sea wall was finally destroyed during a storm in 1887.
Top Gear TV show famously dropped a caravan off the cliffs here. The area has also been used in various films.
