Description
The overgrown ruins of the long abandoned Danescombe Valley Sawmill adjoining the Tamar Valley, Calstock, Cornwall, SW England UK. According to online sources this water driven sawmill was built around 1876-8 and operated until about 1900. It was designed by a Stephen Grills of Fursden. It is believed a leat upstream fed a pond or cistern to power the waterwheel and saw. Nature is encroaching and reclaiming the old Victorian building with ivy covering the brick walls and ferns growing inside. It is a poignant and atmospheric place in this deep, dank rocky valley. There was much mining in the area for copper, tin, lead and arsenic.
