Description
The lovely beach of East Looe and Mount Ararat taken from the unusual banjo pier.
River Looe estuary with its moored boats and its steep valley divides the pretty seaside towns of East and West Looe before flowing to the sea on the beautiful coast of South Cornwall, SW England, UK. The picturesque small coastal town and fishing port centres around a small harbour and both sides are connected by the current bridge built in 1853.
It is thought that settlement in the area dates back to at least 1,000 B.C. shown by local hill forts. Historically, aside from the traditional fishing (especially pilchards and crabs) and boat building industries, it became an important port for exporting tin, arsenic and granite from local mines and quarries, then later the textile industry. Looe is a popular tourism resort and holiday destination.
