Description
A beached boat on the shore of the River Tamar at Weir Quay on the Bere Peninsula in West Devon, SW England, UK. A tranquil idyllic scene. Taken one fine September day.
The tidal river is the border that separates the counties of Devon and Cornwall. The Tamar Valley was once a heavily mined area and the Bere Peninsula, in particular, was famous for its royal silver and lead mines dating back several hundred years. There is still evidence of such operations including that of a nearby smelter and a lime kiln. Much of the area is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or part of the UNESCO World Heritage Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape 1215.
