Description
St Nectan's Kieve is located in St Nectan's Glen on the Trevillet river at Trevithy near Tintagel on the North Cornwall Coast, England, UK. The 60 foot (18m) high waterfall cascades into a plunge pool and through an unusual natural rock arch. A place of pilgrimage, many consider it an important Celtic spiritual or sacred healing place known as a Cloutie, Cloughtie or Clootie well. Legends suggest that St Piran (the patron saint of tin miners and Cornwall) had a hermitage at the top of the waterfall and may have been buried beneath the waterfall. There is evidence of Roman occupation and a Bronze Age inscription nearby. Taken in August after recent heavy rainfall.
