Description
Stunning views of the wild, remote and treacherous North Devon Atlantic & Bristol Channel coast looking towards Hartland Point. Taken from Mouthmill beach as sunset approaches. Mouthmill is west of Clovelly, North Devon, SW England, UK. Access can be through the lovely Brownsham Woods which are full of bluebells in the spring. Historically the small and relatively unknown cove was used for smuggling and also for importing lime from Wales to improve soils. There is a derelict lime kiln just behind the beach. The amazing geological sea arch, Blackchurch Rock is directly behind where I took this. Fingers of rock extend under the ocean that are eroded folded, upturned and faulted layers of rock that were subject to immense pressures in ancient geological events from the meeting of tectonic plates. This stretch of coast is also known for its hanging valleys where waterfalls plunge to the beaches as coastal erosion has terminated their natural course. One can be seen in the distance. Taken in November.
