Description
A stunning view of desolate moorland from Brown Willy (Cornish: Bronn Wennili) the highest point in Cornwall at 1,378 feet (420 m) on Bodmin Moor, NE Cornwall, SW England, UK. The Ordnance Survey triangulation station or trig point sits alongside the man made cairn known as the Brown Willy Summit or North Cairn. Never archaeologically excavated but folklore suggest it may hold the remains of a Cornish king. Similar nearby cairns have been dated to between 2162 and 1746BC or early Bronze Age. Rough Tor the next highest point at 1313 ft (400m) can be seen in the distance and is the route from which I had walked. The area is littered with numeorus Neolithic or Bronze Age settlements including roundhouse hut circles and ancient boundaries and standing stones (menhirs). Taken in February I was totally alone up there and could not see anyone else having passed a couple descending the hill an hour before.
