Description
A ruined and overgrown stone arch and steps lead nowhere alongside derelict lime kilns at the long abandoned and little known port of New Quay, Tamar Valley, Devon, SW England, UK. These and other derelict buildings, an inclined plain and remnants of the old mineral railway are poignant reminders of a once bustling Victorian industrial hamlet and mining port on the steep, winding banks of the river Tamar, the natural boundary between Devon and Cornwall. New Quay was formerly an important copper, tin and later arsenic port serving local mines but was abandoned early in the twentieth century. The site is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site that is the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape since 2006.
