Description
A heavy overcast sky as evening approaches at Hartland Quay, North Devon, SW England, UK. Remote Hartland Quay is world famous for its stormy seas, jagged rocks treacherous to shipping and its geological rock formations particularly the chevron folded rock layers seen in Warren Cliff in the photo. These patterns formed over millennia of tectonic and volcanic activity uplifting, folding and faulting its rocks. Several ships have been wrecked here and on the coast nearby. The harbour itself dates back to the reign of King Henry VIII. The quay / sea wall was finally destroyed during a storm in 1887. Top Gear TV show famously dropped a caravan off the cliffs here. The area has also been used in various films.
