Description
Imposing Castle Rock, part of the Valley Of The Rocks, forms a coastal cliff top buttress high above the Atlantic in Exmoor National Park, near Lynton & Lynmouth, North Devon, SW England, UK. R D Blackmore set part of his famous novel of 1869, Lorna Doone, here. It is thought the last ice age may have dammed draining rivers so that when the ice retreated a dry valley and the amazing geology were left. These Devonian rocks were formed some 419-359 million years ago. Taken in February with a moody and threatening sky.

This is a beauty spot. Love the sky! L/F
Richard Brookes replied:
Thank you Susan, much appreciated. The sky was certainly brooding with occasional showers and an icy wind that day!
